WARSASH TENNIS CLUB XMAS
NEWSLETTER 2007
CLUB SESSIONS
Tuesdays 6.30 – 9.00 will carry
on after the New Year
Fridays 6.30 – 9.00 will discontinue
until the early Spring. However, those of you who have been coming along
on Fridays and wish to continue to do so, please let Julie know and she
will put you in touch with other like-minded members. The courts are
free that evening.
Other sessions will continue as normal
until the building of the 4th court, when some play may be
curtailed but we will keep you informed.
3rd and 4TH COURTS’ PROJECT
We have this week received confirmation
of funding from both the LTA and Fareham Borough Council which is excellent
news and enables us to go ahead with the project.
The Fourth and Third Courts (re)construction
programme will now start during week commencing 2nd January
2008 with fencing between the courts and school being replaced by Clovers
Ltd (Phase 1). Following completion of the fencing Courtstall
Ltd will start work on the courts. This work (Phase 2) is expected
to complete 8 – 10 weeks later, after which the remainder of the
fencing (Phase 3) will be erected by Clovers. During Phase 2,
floodlighting will be erected by Floodlighting Ltd and the Basketball
Frame will be relocated to the south of the new court. After Phase 2,
there will be a drying out time when the new courts cannot be used, followed
by a period when temporary markings will be applied (as for Courts Nos
1 & 2 when they were resurfaced in 2004). Final painting (Phase
4) will take place when the weather permits (probably in Apr/May
2008).
The timing is tight as Fareham Borough
Council have imposed a constraint that no heavy lorries, which might
damage the football pitch, may be moved across it after 31 March as they
will be resurfacing the pitch after that.
Courts Nos 1 & 2 are expected to remain
available throughout, although there may be some days when only court
No 1 is available depending on the contractors’ programme. Floodlighting
on Courts Nos 1 & 2 will also be disconnected for some of the time,
but will remain available for as much time as possible.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! !
One aspect, which has caused the project
sub-committee a considerable problem, is the disposal of up to 140 tonnes
of soil that has to be removed to enable the fourth court to be constructed.
This is estimated to cost the Club up to £4,000, plus VAT, as Fareham
Borough Council has directed that it cannot remain on site! If anybody
knows of anyone or any company that is looking for some landfill, please
contact Chris Coote on 01489582319. It will be free, but has to be collected
from Osborne Road in January.
NEW CLUBHOUSE
There are still a few items to sort out
and tie up but the Project Committee are working hard on these and we
hope to have some news for you shortly. Unfortunately, as with everything,
costs have risen since the original estimate so we need you support for
any fund-raising efforts the Social Committee arrange. Our thanks go
to the members on the Project Committee, Chris Coote, Nick StJohn and
Ian Stewart, who have had to overcome the many hurdles thrown at them
along the way – their hard work is appreciated.
SOCIAL EVENTS
Thanks to those of you who supported the
recent Quiz and Supper evening, which was a success and raised funds
for the Club. The next event will be the Dinner in EITHER January or
February - hopefully at the “Nook and Cranny” Restaurant.
Details to follow.
A Very Happy Christmas to everyone and
a Peaceful New Year
