WARSASH TENNIS CLUB NEWS

SEPTEMBER 2007

With thanks to our Sponsors: Sportsmatch & Copyrite Business Solutions Ltd

The Summer Season is coming to an end and thoughts turn to the Winter Season. The Tuesday and Friday "Mix In" sessions will continue from 6.30p.m - 9.00p.m.. The "Mix In" Session during the daytime, for those interested, will be on Wednesdays 2.00p.m – 3.30p.m. Wednesdays will be an "open" session with members and non-members. Non-members paying a Guest Fee. Any help with the Rotas for these Sessions will be much appreciated, please contact Julie. Don’t forget that the Singles Ladder is still running and it is up to you to challenge those above you in order to climb this Ladder.

CLUB PROJECT

The Project for a 4th floodlit court and new Clubhouse was discussed at our recent Committee meeting. We are hoping to make a start on the 4th court and floodlights in October. There will be some disruption to play but we will keep members informed. Hopefully, courts 1 and 2 will not be affected for most of the time. There are still some hurdles to overcome relating to the Clubhouse but we will get there! Our thanks go to our sub-committee, Chris Coote, Nick St.John and Ian Stewart, for their continuing hard work to make sure this Project gets off the ground.

TEAMS

There will be a meeting on the 14th September between the Club Captains and Colin to decide on the Squads for the Winter Leagues. If you are interested in playing in teams, or will not be available to play this winter, please get in touch with Colin or any Committee member BEFORE this date.

JUNIORS

Colin will be holding a half-term Holiday Camp –Tuesday 23rd October: Contact Jane (07793 129314) for details.

Congratulations to our junior team – Gianmarco Fiorentino, Phillip Merritt, Claudia Nash and Fiona Smallshaw - winners at the Hampshire Youth Games.. We are now the proud owners of a silver cup, which is to go on display at Fareham B.C.

James Mack and Michael Rawat have continued to perform well in local tournaments.

Our Mini-Tennis team also did well in the Aldershot Hampshire Youth Games. Thanks to those juniors who took part in the National Junior Club League this summer.

We are now highly regarded by local Clubs and the L.T.A. for the coaching we arrange within many Schools in the area. Colin and Jane wish to thank all juniors who participate in the various coaching activities.

SOCIAL EVENTS

The Summer Ball was a successful evening with members turning out to enjoy the lovely surroundings of the R.S.Y.C. Our Open Day attracted new members to the Club and was well attended – no rain this year!.We will be organising another popular Quiz Night and Supper in late November. Further details will follow.

KEYS

We have recently had a new lock put on the gate – the barrel of which has been changed to fit all our keys. However, some members are having problems opening the lock. If you are one of them, please contact Julie.

‘IbeLong’ ON LINE SHOPPING

The LTA recommend a terrific way in which you can help increase the club’s funds by shopping on-line at www.IbeLonguk.com The commission earned varies from company to company but will be an average of around 2.5%. You can opt to either receive ½ the commission for yourself and ½ to the Club or donate 100% to the Club.
